Travel day to the ship - Nov 30

Image
Well if you know me you know that I love bus rides and then add in a woman coughing, it was a dream.  Actually did get some sleep so that was nice as my time clock is still all messed up. The best part of the trip today was being able to do the Nuremberg Christmas market, we had 2 hours and we barely got 2 rows done…. Don’t panic trusted readers I have modified our trips for tomorrow so we have all morning there.  Got a Santa and an angel so up to 6 now and Bob got his first Christmas mug and we both had a sausage so a good day, don’t worry Bob’s purchases not included in the count. We even squeezed in a church, but it was a quickie. Got to the ship, but with a lot of others all lined up along the canal, no side by side luckily, must be 7.   The room to say the least is compact, much smaller than on Avalon but still now I have everything put away it will be fine. Had pre dinner drinks with Canadians from East coast, then moved to dinner with Expedia travel agents fr...

Prague day 2 Terezin

Image
Terezin Today 27 of us headed out of Prague to visit Terezin.   How have I never read about this town which was used to house Jews before being sent to the camps. A very strange, errie and touching tour, I would have liked to have more time there but that is the world of a tour. Overview Originally built as a Habsburg fortress in 1780 by Joseph II, Theresienstadt, or Terezín, became a concentration camp in 1940 after the Nazi occupation of Czech lands in the previous year. The Gestapo used Terezín as a concentration camp for Jews from Czechoslovakia, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, and Denmark until it was liberated by the Soviet Army in 1945. During the war, German propaganda convinced international organizations that the camp was simply a “beautification project.” A visit to Terezin is sure to be a profoundly moving experience. Once back in Prague around 2:30 we went to a small local place for pasta, needed comfort food and it was a cold day too so needed some warmth. ...

Prague November 28

Prague We are now team Green, our tour group for this part of the trip. We found out there are a bunch of Canadians on this trip so they have put us all together.   They are from Alberta and BC. As you can see today is a bunch of sightseeing with some beer thrown in just to keep Bob interested. We found out that the other Canadians here are part of an Expedia Tour group of agents for the BC area,  i think there are 18 of them. Started our morning with a lovely buffet breakfast in the dining room, they had everything we normally like to eat and some fun extras.   It was clear blue skies and 8c today so left our extreme clothes for another day but did dress warmly.  The guide told us it is not usually like this here in November so we are lucky. We then joined our group for a twisty turny bus ride over the river and up to the top of the hill to Prague Castle over looking the city.  It was very windy and cold up there but a lovely building, have to say I was ...

Flights over - November 26 & 27

Image
November 26th  Driver picked us up early and off we went to the airport.  We saw a rainbow during the trip so that is good sign. 15 minutes from dropping bags to arriving in the lounge, the gods were smiling on us. Spent a lovely afternoon in the Signature lounge at Air Canada.   Drinking 13th street bubbly and eating great food. I know airport food can’t be good but this was! Waiting for our flight and hoping to be able to get a bit of sleep. Excited about waking up in Europe. Thanks to all who made votes for the “how much can Susan buy” contest, Bob has discovered that they have beer steins in the markets so is trying to claim back some luggage space for his stash.  Landed in Frankfurt dark and early.  Made it to our gate after a bus ride and going through customs.  We have a short wait until we board our flight to Prague.  This is a huge airport lucky they have friendly staff all over helping you to navigate. Made it to Prague and meet the AMA...
