Nuremberg -December 1

 

Change of plan!   Now just doing Christmas markets.   When you get to go to one of the biggest you don’t want the history stuff to get in the way. 🥳

Afternoon

While Bob sleeps off his pork heavy meal  (plus a few beers) and we cruise through a series of locks I will let you know that I did well in Nuremberg.

Contrary to the last info, we headed back to the same market as we were at yesterday but I had 2 1/2 hours this time.  I knew I wanted to go back and get an angel, unique to this market and the one I got was 10€ less than other places, ya me!  The pleated angels, are the symbol of the Nuremberg market and also remind me of the set I have from my Grandmother Ward, so I had to buy this.  She has feather and a ceramic head and no others had this.



I got 5 things here plus 2 gifts so I think I am now at 11 items.   Sorry I could have done more but one is a collector nutcracker my funds were limited.

They also had a children's market here so I had to ride the Carousel, it was 2 levels and I got a bucket car that swung around, good thing I did this before the mulled wine.  Bob has pics of me in it but he is snoring now so will get them to you when he wakes.  He woke up so here is pic.




What was I so excited about to buy today, the angel yes but there was something else I needed to complete my life and Here he is, I would like to introduce you to Ginger.  I saw him yesterday and wanted him since so now he is mine.   Yes I bought 2 more nativities and another angel so keeping up for the rest of the collection.  But as you know nutcrackers have a weird place in my heart.

Made it back to the ship safely and had a nice lunch (and a few too many drinks hence Bob’s nap).  We cruise all night  now as we head to our next atop.  I have heard they have a Christmas market too, hard to believe

Main-Danube Canal Scenic Cruising

Overview
Enjoy a relaxing afternoon as you cruise through the Main-Danube Canal.

I think we might nap and watch the world go by until tea time at 4 and the excursion review at 5, then drinks then dinner then tree decorating, we have busy lives 🥂🎉🤪
Excursion review has been cancelled as a woman had a bad fall getting off the bus so had to go to hospital, the cruise director went with her.  They just announced she will be back to the boat tomorrow so we are glad it was not as bad as it looked.

Today was a long day but the skies were blue and we got to 4 markets and one church.  Rode one carrousel and one Farris wheel so a good day. Tonight is Christmas dinner on board so fingers crossed it is good, it starts with champagne with the gang in the lounge so heading off there now as I have to get dressed.  Sat with a lovely couple of doctors, they were celebrating his 40th bday, we felt old. 4 things today and Bob got 2 mugs, we passed on the one at the Schonbrunn market as is was kind of boring, the mug not the market. Flights home December 7

  Bags are packed and I did not need all the bubble wrap I brought, hopefully everything will survive the flight home. It has bee a wonderful experience and we meet some nice people but still not sure if we like the scheduled nature of river cruises.  We seem this time to be in ports where you can’t get off and wander, so that was disappointing but we did see lots of markets which was the goal. Now we start the fun process of flights home and waiting at airports. Although trusted readers (Bridgerton reference) i have heard there is a Christmas market in the airport in Frankfurt.  And we do have time to kill there, so as I say the numbers might change. Budapest AC 9039 leaves at 12:45 PM  to Frankfurt Frankfurt AC843 to Toronto leaves at 5:10 PM arrives home at 7:55 PM

Passau Changed to Salzburg - December 3

  Changed again heading Salzburg for an all day event. And those who know me and my no love of Sound of Music are saying why do this….   The answer as always is there are 2 markets on this tour and that sold it. It was an early morning and a long day, and it was raining so not all happy campers on this bus ride. 2 hours to Salzburg, most napped so that was good. Started off with a walking tour for  about 2 hours, luckily light on Sound of Music and more Mozart so I was happy with that but rain and cold. We then got our bearings of the city and where the markets were and we were set loss.  Its markets were lovely but boy were they expensive and few places to buy sausages.   Bob was able to find one finally and a mug of mulled wine.  I got 2 things, but as I say things were so expensive that we passed on some due to the ridiculous cost, €17 for something I have seen for £7 We then meet our group and headed back onto the bus for a 1 1/2 hour bus ride to Linz t...
