Budapest Dec 6
Today Budapest was covered in fog, cold and damp, but we soldiered on and got onto our bus to the Buda castle. I have to say it was lovely but most of it is reconstructions of what got bombed out during the war, glad they are rebuilding but still lost most of its beauty. Our guide was very good and got us into the church and told us all the history. I must say it has all become a bit of a blur although I do think if you were a Hapsburg back in the day you lived a lifestyle we can’t image.
A lovely little market up by the church and then the bus dropped us back on the Pest side of the city so we could wander the other markets.
This began being a lovely day and then it started to sprinkle and then rain. Luckily while we were eating lunch, cabbage roll and sausage, they had big umbrellas out so we did not drown. We continued thinking this can not get worse and it will only last a few minutes, both wrong assumptions, so I made the call to call this day done. I went back to the stalls. As we arrived back at the main market the rain turned into big flakes of snow and suddenly all the wet sad faces started to smile and Christmas magic was in the air. I got the items I wanted and Bob bought a beer for the room and we headed back to the bus to the ship.
By the time we got back the snow had turned back into rain but it was lovely while it lasted.
We took some of the afternoon trying to pack all of our goodies into the suitcases. Bob’s Christmas mugs and my purchases.
I know you are all screaming by now, we don’t care about your walk, the beautiful snow or even god forbid Bob’s beer.
What is the final count! Well I am not committing to the final count until I unpack when we get home since some are small and might be hiding in a corner of a box but I think the count is 30. The official record keeper will do a final count, refer to the voting sheets and a winner will be announced soon.
But know you are all winners in my heart since you supported this crazy gal with her crazy dream of doing the Christmas markets. Not sure if I would do it again but it was a wonderful week.
Tonight we do a cruise to see the city all lit up. Then sadly we pack the last bags and head off for a long trip home in the morning.
